This exclusive bar offers the most sensational views over London, but make sure you reserve a table, as the capacity is only 70. If you’re not a fan of heights, The Bathhouse (8 Bishopsgate Churchyard, EC2M 3TJ) is an alternate option. Keep your feet firmly on the ground in this one-storey listed building – an oddity in comparison to the office skyscrapers, but a welcome one at that.
Austin Friars is 5 minutes away from the Leadenhall Market (EC3V 1LT), a covered market hall which dates back to the first century AD. Fruit, veg, meat and some clothes stores are located inside, making it a popular destination for workers and tourists. The area is also home to galleries and museums, including the Bank of England Museum (Bartholomew Lane, EC2R 8AH), which has a unique collection of gold bars and bank notes.
