Sharjah is one of the seven emirates in the country of the United Arab Emirates. Sharjah city is the government seat, and the third largest and most populated city in the UAE. The emirate of Sharjah also includes minor towns and enclaves such as Kalba, Dibba Al-Hisn, and Khor Fakkan. This is the third largest emirate in the United Arab Emirates, and the only one with land on both the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
Sharjah City is the headquarters of Air Arabia. You will also discover many upscale hotels in the Buhairah Corniche, along with the Sharjah Commerce Tourism Development Authority. Sharjah is also home to the University of Sharjah, the American University of Sharjah, Troy University – ITS Sharjah Campus, Skyline College Sharjah, Sharjah Men’s College, and Sharjah Women’s College. Entertainment And Dining Out
There are many things to see and do in Sharjah, including visiting the Heritage Area near the Corniche. Sites here include Al Hisn Fort, Literature Square with House of Poetry, Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, Sharjah Heritage Museum, and Souk al-Arsa. Souk al-Arsah is believed to be the oldest souk in the country. Particularly interesting is a visit to the traditional coffeehouse to enjoy a traditional plate of dates and a mint tea or coffee. Dining options in Sharjah include Mushmaool Arabic Grill Restaurant, Seashells Seafood Restaurant, Lasani, and Syed Al Biryani at the Crystal Plaza Hotel.
Sharjah has its own airport, Sharjah International Airport, which is located 14 km (9 miles) from the city centre. Nearby is Dubai International Airport, located 18 km (11 miles) from Sharjah. The third option is Ras Al Khaimah International Airport, located 87 km (54 miles) from the city centre. Sharjah has local bus and taxi services, as well as intercity bus service to other cities and towns in the emirate. Sharjah is easily accessible via car with the E 11, E 311, E 611 and E 88 roadways all running through the city. The E 11 provides a direct link with Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
