Al Garhoud is a commercial and residential area in Dubai, within the country of the United Arab Emirates. Europeans often refer to is as Garhoud, leaving the ‘Al’ of the name. This is a favourite place to live for anyone involved with the Dubai International Airport due to its proximity.
The airport places a big part of Al Garhoud’s economy. Companies located in the area include the headquarters of the Emirates Airline/Emirates Group, and Daallo Airlines. Garhoud also serves as a bedroom community for Dubai. The economy of Dubai is based on petroleum, tourism, financial services, and real estate. The city is an IT, media, and financial hub, with its free zoned Dubai Internet City and Dubai Media City, which have attracted many large corporations. New Dubai offers the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall, which is the tallest building and the largest mall in the world. The Dubai International Airport is within minutes from Garhoud. The suburb is located on the E 11, which makes it easily accessible to cars and taxis. There is also transportation provided by the Dubai Metro and some bus services in the area. Garhoud is connected by the Metro’s Red Line, with the closest stations being the Airport Terminals on the edge of the suburb. This Metro line makes stops at the Emirates Towers, Burj Dubai and Mall of the Emirates Metro Stations amongst others, as it makes it way to Jebel Ali Metro Stations 1 and 2.
