Germany is officially the Federal Republic of Germany, German Deutschland or Bundesrepublik Deutschland. This is a country of north-central Europe. One of Europe’s largest countries, Germany offers a wide variety of landscapes. In the south there are tall, sheer mountains, the north offers rolling grassland, the west is urban and forested, and the east has agricultural plains. Supported by its strong manufacturing backbone, Germany has one of the strongest economies in the European Union. Modern Germany can be seen as a land of contrasts offering both half-timbered farming villages and dynamic urban skylines. You can enjoy a frothy beer in a rustic biergarten, sip wine from one of the country’s vineyards or drink a cosmopolitan coffee in any of the country’s numerous forward thinking cities.
