Ede is a municipality and a city, located in the province of Gelderland, right in the middle of the Netherlands. It is situated between two larger cities, Arnhem and Utrecht, with direct rail service to these towns. Ede sits in a forest, with part of the city on the central Dutch plains. It is within the boundaries of the national park, Nationaal Park De Hoge Veluwe.
Ede’s economy is focused on national tourism and education. There are several local colleges in the area, and the large Wageningen University is situated in the nearby city of Wageningen. The Nationaal Park De Hoge Veluwe or The Hoge Veluwe National Park is approximately 55 square kilometres (21 square miles) in area. This park has sand dunes, woodlands, and heath-lands. This park is one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, a true Dutch breakfast typically consists of fresh bread served with cheese, sausage, butter and hagelslag (chocolate sprinkles), jam, and often a boiled egg. It is accompanied with a strong cup of coffee. One of the area specialties is a pea soup, thick and flavoured with local sausage. This specialty is called Erwtensoep.
