Aix-en-Provence is a very wealthy city which attracts shoppers and tourists all year round. It has a great deal of shopping centres and markets, and specialises in luxury goods and luxury experiences for the more discerning visitor. The city centre is mostly pedestrianised and is home to a number of markets and festivals, whilst the historical town has some amazing architecture to take in, including interesting 17th century hotels.
Aix-en-Provence is a thriving tourist area, which means much of its economy relies on the tourist trade. The computer industry is also notable in the city, and provides some of the wealth that the city enjoys. One of Aix-en-Provence’s main industries is the manufacture of gifts and souvenirs, with many products being unique to the area. The city is also home to the Aix Graduate School of Management (IAE), which was founded in 1409 and remains one of the leading business schools in France.
Entertainment And Dining Out
Aix-en-Provence, being a tourist town, has plenty of exciting entertainment options all year round. There are a number of major fashion boutiques offering luxury brands, and open air markets where tourists can buy locally made products and specialty crafts. Aix-en-Provence has a huge number of restaurants for such a small city, most of which can be found in one area of the Old City. A popular place to eat for residents and tourists alike is Emile Bec, which is a top-of-the-range bakery with 5 locations throughout the city. The city also hosts a number of festivals throughout the year, which prove to be a major draw for those in surrounding towns and cities.
Aix-en-Provence is a small, compact city and thus is convenient and easy for getting around on foot or by bike, as many of its residents do. There is a regular bus service which runs throughout the city, and out to surrounding areas, on an efficient and regular timetable. Marseille is very close by and can be reached by bus. As a small city, Aix-en-Provence does not have its own airport, but the Marseille Province Airport is just 20km away, and easily reached by bus.
