One of the 10 districts of Guangzhou, the Tianhe District is a rapidly expanding district with a growing economy. The name Tianhe means ‘river in the sky’ and the district borders the Pearl River, offering great access to the various entertainment attractions the banks of the river provide. Shopping is a large part of the Tianhe District, with popular locations including the Tian He City Plaza and Hong Cheng Plaza, which offer shops, restaurants and entertainment on a large scale. The district has ideal transport links and there is a focus on street performance throughout the district, creating on-the-spot entertainment for tourists and residents.
The Tianhe District is an important region for the computing industry. With the district expanding all the time and building a positive name for itself amongst the major players in the industry, many of the companies coming into the area are computer product creators and developers. The Tianhe District is often the first port of call for tourists looking for the latest computer games and new technologies – even Google has an office here. The district also has a large number of universities and colleges, making it ideal for businesses, as there is a high number of graduates each year. This district is also home to the Guangzhou International Finance Centre, a major location for larger corporations, and one of the district’s landmark skyscrapers.
Entertainment And Dining Out
The Tianhe District is a busy shopping area, and is home to dozens of shopping centres and malls. The Tianhe Shopping Centre and the brand new Grandview Mall are popular with shoppers, and offer the best prices on locally made products. For quieter entertainment during the day, the district is famous for its street-side flower displays, as well as various street performances which include traditional opera performers. There are many restaurants, bars and hotels in the area, and the district is home to an annual beer festival, which brings thousands of tourists into the area each July.
The Tianhe District is served by five metro lines, heading through the city and to surrounding areas. The district is also a major transportation hub for trains to Hong Kong, so is ideal for travellers and business people trying to get around. The main Guangzhou International Airport is not too far from the Tianhe District, and there are various shuttle bus services available which run regularly to and from the airport.
