Midrand is an area, located between Centurion and Sandton in central Gauteng, South Africa. It is in Region 2 of Johannesburg’s administrative region plan and a part of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. The area is near the N1 motorway and is a popular touristic node.
Midrand has experienced growth in the last decade. Many businesses have relocated here, due to its proximity to the economic centre of the Gauteng Province. It is now home to several large-scale industries, including textiles and motor vehicles. Corporations with office space or other facilities in Midrand include the South African Civil Aviation Authority, the African Union’s Pan-African Parliament, and the secretariat of NEPAD. In addition, the area is a home to Midrand Graduate Institute and UNISA’s Graduate School of Business Leadership.

Midrand houses the Gallagher Estate, which is the largest conference centre in South Africa. Other points of interest include the Nizamiye Mosque, the international renowned racetrack Kyalami, the South African Lipizzaner’s riding academy, and more. Johannesburg has a lot to offer in terms of sights and activities. The downtown city centre is the most-visited part of Johannesburg. Midrand is serviced by one of the stations of the Gautrain rapid rail system and the Grand Central Airport. It is located 32 miles from O.R. Tambo International Airport.
